Calendar of Events 2007

January 7 – March 11 Winter Tours, leave VC every half-hour from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Except for Winter Interpretive weekend February 7-10, 2007 General Admission.

February 7-10 Winter Interpretive Weekend Lighting the Dark 10-4 each day – Highlights early lighting and Warmth, all farms Spinstube – February 10 only, 10-4 German Farm General Admission

February 20, 27, March 6 Winter Lecture Series “Climate and History” – 7 – 9 p.m. Dairy Barn Lecture Hall; Free to public.

March 17 Celtic Music and Dance Celebration – Music by Museum band (Local musicians invited to join jam), then concert and simple dances for all in Lecture Hall later in evening 1-4 p.m. Irish Farm – General Admission 6:30-8 p.m. Lecture Hall – Cost $5 person

March 30-31   A Stocking Bound on Warm – herbal medicine For a Sore Throat – herbal medicine Workshops ($5 person aged 12 and up) AF 1-2 p.m. EF 3-4 p.m.General Admission

April 5 – 10    Here Comes Peter Cottontail: Easter Traditions Easter Egg Hunt - April 7 and April 8 at 2 p.m. on AF General Admission

April 26-30 Yes Sir Yes Sir Three Bags Full: Wool Days 2007 9-5 All farms; General Admission Sheep shearing 11 and 2 daily in good weather; see VC for location and details

Saturday April 28 Sheep dog demonstration; details TBA

May 20 Shall We Gather at the River – hymn sing AF 2-4 p.m. General admission

May 25-28 “Row by Row” Historic Garden Days 2007 9-5 All farms; General admission

Special guided tours 10,1,3 leave from VC (not for large school groups – for general visitors)

June 1 First Fridays – “Music” (other FF have different themes) 6-8 p.m. All farms – Free to public

June 8-10 English Woodland Crafts – EF Cattle Shed 10-4 Daily; General admission

June 23 Old Time Music Night – Wooded Amphitheater 7-10 p.m. $10 adult, $5 child (6-12)

June 25-29 History Day Camp

July 4  Independence Day Celebration – American and Bowman Farms 11-4; Specific events times TBA General admission Games, seed-spitting, pie eating, sack races and more

Reading of the Declaration of Independence at 12 on the American Farm and at 2 on the Bowman Farm

July 6 First Fridays – “John Lewis Society Night” 6-8 p.m. All farms – Free to public

July 8  In Sweet Accord – Shape-Note Hymn Sing 2-4 p.m.; General admission

July 9-13 & 16-20 Summer on the Farms I and II

July 14-15 “When it has Risen Well” 9-5  daily; General Admission

August 3 First Fridays – “Animals” 6-8 p.m. All farms – Free to public

August 4-7 “From Boulders to Buildings” historic building methods – stones 10-5 Daily; General admission

August 6-10 Summer Enrichment Camp/Frontier Day Camp

August 11-12 “And He Huffed and He Puffed”  - historic building methods, thatch Irish Farm, 9-12 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. General admission      

September 7   First Fridays – “Storytelling” 6-8 p.m. All farms – Free to public

September 8   “Take a Partner” – Old Fashioned Barn Dance 6-8 p.m.’ location TBA $5 per person, 6 and up

September 15 Men at Work: Historic Trades Weekend 9-5 Daily, All farms General admission

September 29 Cornhusking Bee and Barn Dance Time and location TBA 9-5 – Ticketholders only – no general admission this day

October 6 Oktoberfest – 12 noon – 9 p.m. (Museum open 9-5) – Pavilion German Farm Interpretive and Children’s activities 9-5) Ticket prices TBA (Oktoberfest 1 day only)

October 19-20 “In Praise of the Needle” 9-5 p.m. Daily; All farms General admission

October 25-26-27 Creepy Tales Tours nightly at 6,630,7,730,8,830 $6 person (6 and up) advance reservations required

November 23-25 “Crock, Stock and Barrel” 9-5 daily, All farms General admission

December 8 Family Caroling Party Guided tours at 10 and 2, advance reservations required General admission

December 14, 15, 16, 20,21,22,23 Holiday Lantern Tours Guided tours leave VC at 530-830p.m. nightly; Advance reservations required

December 26  Winter Caroling Party Guided tours leave the VC at 6. 630, 7 and 730 Advance reservations required
